Summerville Alumnae Programs

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is committed to the principles of Sisterhood, Scholarship and Public Service. In accordance with these ideals and based on the sorority’s Five Point Programmatic Thrust of Economic Development, Educational Development , International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health and Political Awareness and Involvement, Summerville Deltas use their many skills and talents to impact the lives of county residents through a variety of community services. The following is a partial list of programs and services we provide to the community:
The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy and the Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) – two programs designed to bring about positive self-images, develop leadership skills, promote academic excellence, and foster feelings of community obligations among pre-teens and teenage girls.

Scholarship Opportunities-Provides annual workshops to educate high school students on college preparations, financial aid, scholarships and grants, early admission and career opportunities. Additionally, the chapter awards scholarships to a graduating senior at each of the four high schools located in Dorchester County.

Health Fair – A program designed to promote healthy lifestyles and practices by providing free information and health screening to the general public.

Social Action Agenda – Some of the activities include Women’s Legislative Briefings, voter registration drives, Delta Days at the State Capital, Delta Days at the Nation’s Capital and the United Nations.
